OPERATION HOPE – KUWAIT
May 27, 2007
Dearest OH Family,
I woke up this morning with these words on my heart, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” I even tucked those very words into my husband’s lunch bag this morning! As this letter unfolds you’ll see evidence of so much to be glad for!
My family and I are leaving the country for 10 weeks on May 30th (while exciting it is NOT to be confused with the “rejoicing and be glad in it” part of today’s message!). Several OH family members and I have been busy tying up numerous loose ends, while accepting new threads to sew into the tapestry of OPERATION HOPE – KUWAIT. This ever-evolving mission of mercy just blesses me so much!!
While the heat is getting turned up in Kuwait it hasn’t stopped us from getting ready for next winter’s outreach. Like I said in the last update, ‘Noah built the ark BEFORE it rained!’ We too are getting ready.
The 5,000 thermal underclothing sets should arrive into Kuwait by late August/early September – God willing. 5,000 coats have also been ordered at KD 3.600 each. In total our bill is BIG at KD 23,000. The number seems a bit intimidating BUT I am convinced that God has a great plan to release all the funds we need and perhaps even more! Please stand with me in agreement brothers and sisters!
The last fundraising effort for spring 2007 will take place on Tuesday, May 29th at 7 PM at the Crowne Plaza Hotel – Farwaniya. Two renowned Motivational Humorists, Scott Freidman & George Walther will grace the stage with 80 minutes of ‘funny bone tickling’ advice on how to get the best out of whatever circumstances we’re in, followed by a bountiful buffet. All this for KD 15 per person ~ so if you’d like to attend and haven’t reserved/bought your tickets, please do by today! I must give a final guest number to the hotel by tomorrow morning. You can call me on 937-5613 to reserve your seats!
The Royal Society of St. George – Kuwait chapter has nominated and selected OH – KUWAIT as the recipient for 50 % of their fundraising efforts for membership year 2007-2008 and we couldn’t be more delighted! Last year’s recipient, PAWS was awarded KD 1,700 through all the efforts of RSStG! For more information about the organization, please go to www.kuwaitsaintgeorge.freeservers.com. Their fundraisers are open to the community at large, therefore I do hope you’ll patronize their events!
OH – KUWAIT can now be accessed through a link on the blogsite of The Kuwait Relief Society, founded by Sheikha Bibi Nasser Al Sabah. This dynamo of a lady is passionate about serving the needs of TCN’s living/working in Kuwait! She and her band of good Samaritans have helped countless men and women. Thank you Sheikha Bibi for stepping out to make a difference! May God bless you and the work of your society! And thank you for your support of OH – KUWAIT! For more information about The Kuwait Relief Society go to: http://www.q8sws.blogspot.com
Al Bayan Bilingual class of 7D recently presented OH with a donation from their International Day event held last February! I thank these four young adults for their support and their desire to make a difference in the lives of the needy! I look forward to having their support into the coming school year, too!
Dasman Model School Seniors made a donation of KD 100 from their graduation fund to be given to a TCN family that has fallen upon some very hard times! God bless each of the seniors as they graduate and go out into the world! I pray you’ll each remain faithful to serving whatever community you live in!
Dasman Model School Student Government will be making a donation to OH later today! In advance of receiving your contribution I thank God for your support! Thank you to Ms. Anita Bokesh, SG Advisor for sharing the OH vision with her students!
Recently OH repatriated a TB patient to her homeland of India. We are blessed to have the opportunity to help!
We are working hand in hand with The Kuwait Relief Society to assist a family in temporary but very difficult times! Thanks to Mariluisa Rodriguez of OLEK (Spanish Speaking Society) for bringing the plight of this family to our attention.
While OH’s main focus is on the winter coat outreach, we are able to assist families and other needy individuals occasionally.
Under the auspices of the American Women’s League of Kuwait a Mother’s Day fundraising breakfast was held in early May for the benefit of the Animal Friends League of Kuwait and OPERATION HOPE – KUWAIT. I thank the AWL for its support and pray that the league will be blessed through its support of OH.
A KD 2000 payment was made to our suppliers towards that huge order I mentioned earlier in this update! So our outstanding balance has dropped to KD 21,000. Glory to God for His provision!
Thanks National Evangelical Church of Kuwait – Embassy Chapel for your recent donation! OH thanks you for blessing us again!
You see what I mean about having so much to rejoice about? Aban Dias will be the contact person for OH while I am away this summer. Simply contact her through the OH email: operationhopekuwait@yahoo.com
Should you have a donation of any kind, simply contact Aban. All donations of clothing and/or other items you wish OH to rehome may be brought to my residence in Rumaithiya. Kindly let Aban know when you’ll be dropping your donations and she’ll be sure there is someone at my home to receive it.
I want to close today’s update with something out of Edward Grube’s Coffee Break Meditations. “Proverbs 16:9, ‘In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps’. The passage encourages us to plan ahead, but entrust our plans to God. No person controls the outcome of our plans. We plan, but God controls our steps. No plans are complete without Him. Planning ahead with God’s help means that we pray for His guidance. We may know where we want to go, but we can’t get there by ourselves, regardless of how well we plan. So we’ll plan ahead, trusting the outcome to God. Nothing ever gets in the way of His final plan for us.”
Have a blessed summer one and all!
Blessings,
Sheryll Mairza
